Biography

I am a historian and literary scholar of North India and I am interested in Hindi-Urdu, English, Persian, and Bengali material. My project explores the relationship between the historical, socio-cultural, and intellectual aspects of non-metropolitan space. I focus on textually-mediated identities and intellectual discourses that developed in Allahabad in the colonial period centered on its print culture, educational institutions, and mobilizations in the arena of gender, caste, and religion.

Research Interests
