Biography

I am interested in tracking the evolution in modes of musical listening and the cultural assumptions that guide listening and performance practice in Bengal during the early decades of the 20th century, especially with the entry of radio and gramophone. I intend to study how media-ecologies and technological equipment influence and shape musical thought in 20th century India.  My larger interests lie in the fields of aesthetic philosophy, media-theory, sound studies and popular music studies. I come to UChicago after having completed an Erasmus Masters in media-arts and aesthetics across four countries in Europe.
