Biography
My research investigates the ways in which 'non-literary' genres in Hindi played a crucial role in producing new kinds of identity consciousness and self-practices among middle caste groups in colonial north India such as the Yadavs, Kurmis, and Kalwars. I'm particularly interested in novel print objects emerging in tandem with civic associations that produced new subjects and modes of address in the colonial public sphere.
