Biography

Dr. N. Govindarajan holds a PhD in Tamil Studies from Madurai Kamaraj University (2008), with a thesis on the literary history of goddess worship in Tamilnadu. He is the author of two monographs, Adhikaramum Tamizhppulamaiyum (Hegemonic Power and Tamil Scholarship, 2016) and Mozhiyahiya Tamizh: Kalaniyam nihazhtthiya uraiyadalkal (The Language called Tamil: Colonial Dialogues, 2021), as well as course books in Tamil language instruction. His research interests include the literary and cultural history of Tamil, Tamil classical and devotional literature, Tamil literary theories and poetics, the study of religion, and colonial Tamil studies. Prior to coming to Chicago, Dr. Govindarajan was an Assistant Professor at the American College, Madurai, Tamilnadu.
